Geological exploration and well design
Determining geological conditions
As the demands on our groundwater supply continue to grow-bringing with them the threat of
contamination and lowering water tables-the planning, development and protection of our
groundwater supply becomes more important then ever before.
Moodys of Dayton, Inc. combines the cooperative efforts of hydrogeological
and
engineering services with the technical skills of well drilling to provide
a professional
approach to groundwater development. Some of the exploration and research
tools we use
include:
- Hydrogeological surveys
- Federal and state well logs
- Test well drilling
- Geologic formation sampling by auger, rotary
and cable tool drilling
- Sieve analysis
- Water analysis
- Geophysical logging
Designing a high quality, cost-effective well
Well design is the process of matching the physical materials, dimensions,
equipment and drilling methods to the geological site conditions. By utilizing proven
design principals and years of well drilling experience, along with the latest industry
products and equipment, our management team provides our clients with a comprehensive well
design plan.
This plan includes recommendations on every aspect of the
groundwater system, including test hole drilling, screen design, gravel pack design, well
development, test pumping, pump application and system controls.
Our professional staff of trained engineers and experienced
field technicians, teamed with our diverse equipment, ensure a high quality, efficient and
cost-effective water supply for years to come.

Choosing the correct drilling equipment
Moodys of Daytons experienced personnel and
diversified equipment assures the correct drilling and support equipment for any well
construction or revitalization project. Our drilling capacities include:
- Cable tool / percussion
- Direct rotary
- Reverse circulation rotary
- Hollow stem auger

Well development and test pumping
procedures
Development of a completed well is critical to the life and efficiency of the well.
The development process removes fine and dirty material from the formation around the well
to allow free flow of water into the well. The degree of development is directly related
to the final efficiency of the well. A properly developed well will have a high
efficiency, reduced drawdown, lower pumping costs and lower maintenance.
We utilize the most effective well development procedures,
including straight surge, double-disc air surge, pump surge and chemical treatment when
required.
Test pumping a new well is important for various reasons. EPA
may require a specific test, but the initial data from a pump test proves that the
development was correctly done and gives a permanent record for future comparison. Proper
pump selection requires accurate well information.
After a new well has been developed and test pumped, it is
ready to provide years of service.
